The obituary uses my Grandpa’s birth name, Fred. But he was always known as Fritz.
Fred H. Dorn of Arlington Heights Funeral services for Fred H. Dorn, 92, a resident of the Moorings of Arlington Heights, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Friedrichs Funeral Home Inc., 320 W. Central Road (at Northwest Highway), Mount Prospect. Born July 14, 1910, in Bruck, Austria, he died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at Moorings Healthcare Center. Interment will be in Montrose Cemetery. Mr. Dorn was nine months old when he arrived in the United States. He attended school in Chicago and entered the printing industry as a photolithographer. He then went on to work for R.R. Donelley in their rotogravure department before leaving to join partners in their own company, Acme Gravure Services, in Rolling Meadows. He retired and moved to Florida where he and his wife, Frieda, lived for many years. He was an accomplished artist and exhibited his works in many places including the Moorings of Arlington Heights. He also enjoyed barber shop harmony and belonged to SPEBSQSA in Park Ridge. Additionally, he excelled in playing the harmonica and accompanied his wife playing a zither at many birthday parties at the Moorings.
Fred is survived by his wife Frieda, with whom he celebrated almost 72 years of marriage; children, Marlene (Jerry) Soulak and Gary (Elsie) Dorn; grandchildren, Diane (John) Ericson, James Olson, Darcy (Paul) Coy, Lynn Marie (Russell) Kleinke, Karen Ann (Todd) Stelzel, Bradley John (Janet) Dorn, Robert F. Dorn and Paul Thomas Dorn; and his great-grandchildren, Jonathan Ericson, Carissa (Jon) Ham, Corissa Blauw, Katie Coy, Ryan Coy, Solomon J. Dorn, Rebekah E. Dorn, Hannah S. Dorn, Magdelina S. Dorn, Kayla I. Stelzel, Jillian F. Stelzel and Jessica M. Kleinke.
