Rob Dorn has been performing for over 30 years and has appeared onstage in both theatre and concert venues across the United States and Europe. With his initial roots in the Chicago theatre scene, he appeared in several Stephen Sondheim musicals which paved the way to a year-long national tour of “Into the Woods.” In 1993 Rob was cast in the Minneapolis production of Forever Plaid. Singing tight harmony for almost two years and the show inspired him to form his own vocal group. “Three Hits and a Miss”  toured the country for many years, bringing  1940’s style tight harmony to nearly every state of the country.

Rob has recorded several CD’s including, “I’m Wishing” and “Wonderland.” With Three Hits and a Miss, recorded, “Sentimental Star” and I co-produced and recorded, “Sing Sing Swing,” “Christmas Presence” and “Mixing it Up.”

Rob has produced and performed in several solo shows, including “Wonderland: 364 Days til Christmas,” and wrote and performed a show for Three Cats Solo Festival, “Bob Fred,” which is a collection of autobiographical stories. Rob performed in a wonderful production of “The Music Man” at the Paramount Theatre and currently sings at Chicago’s famous “Green Mill” with the Alan Gresik Swingshift Orchestra.

In 2007, along with Jason Paul Smith, Rob co-founded “Three Cat Productions,” producing several shows including the performance series, “Three Cat Thursdays.”

As a writer, Rob wrote lyrics and special comedy material for Three Cats, “Mister Kelly’s.” He also collaborated with composer Gary Gimmestad writing the book for the new musical, “Spark” that had it’s debut last season with Three Cat Productions.

Recently I debuted my holiday show, “Wonderland: 364 Days til Christmas,” and wrote and performed a show for Three Cats Solo Festival, “Bob Fred,” which is a collection of autobiographical stories. Currently, I am collaborating with Gary Gimmestad on a new musical, “Spark.”

All the songs the band performs are original charts from the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s. Bandleader Alan Gresik has access to the vast collection of arrangements at the Chicago Public Library. These arrangements were used on local radio shows back in the 1930’s, played by their “house” band. Alan told me that in some cases, the arrangements were still in their unopened cellophane wrappers. So its possible that some of these old arrangements are being heard for the first time.
